the relationship growth and friendship between the leads feel so incredibly authentic, tender, and natural that it feels as if the author is recording the lives of real-life people. it protrays the slice-of life and mundane days of teenage boys, but also a decent amount of emotional/somber moments from their unfortunate circumstances that perfectly balance it out without being overly dramatic.
