Is anybody else kind of sick of the contract marriage trope? Like, a story will have a very interesting premise or summary, but then right at the end of the summary or first chapter, the mc just goes, “So, to escape my fate, i have to marry [insert random male lead](contractually)”

Like, that’s your fucking go-to? You couldn’t think of anything else? And then for a bunch of chapters you’ll have the same song and dance of them saying you can’t fall in love in the contract but we all know that’s bullshit. It’s just… I’m so sick of that being the way the mc solves her problems.

Like, I legit read a summary that really got me hooked, just for them to throw that at me. Like, i understand cause men have power in those historical settings and stuff, and a lot of the time, the mc isn’t in a good position. However, sometimes, the mc isn’t even in that bad of a position at the start of the series. Like, some of them are rich daughters and they still go, “I’m going to approach the cold duke to ask for a contract marriage!” And I’m like, girl! You’re rich and your parents love you?! You’ve gotta have other ideas! Please!

I’m fine with stories where they are married already or have to be married because it was arranged by other people and stuff. I’m just so sick of the mc going up to the ml and being like “let’s make this a contract marriage and divorce after [random time frame]!” Like, is that the ONLY way you can think of to gain the ml’s trust? Cause a lot of them do it for that reason, to reassure the ml that “they don’t love him” and “are ready to divorce in the end” and stuff like that. Then the ml is like “wait, is she different?” And then falls for her yadda yadda yadda.(istg the term contract marriage is like an instant turn on for some fo these romfan mls.) I like, love stories where the mc is able to make the ml realize they’re different or a good person based of actions that they do that are not related to the ml at all.(like, I really like the story where the mc becomes the evil stepmother in a Snow White story but just adores her daughter.)

Anyway, there are a lot of stories where I do enjoy the trope. Like Raeliana will always be a favorite of mine. But nowadays, I just get so turned off when I see the contract marriage trope in stories. I have to be in a certain mood to read them and even then, I end up dropping them midway through.

I just need to get this out there and see if others feel the same as me cause I swear I’m tweaking

But seriously, if I see another interesting summary that ends in “However, to fight against her doomed destiny, [insert FL name] must approach and marry the [Duke of the North or Imperial Prince or Original Male Lead], [insert ML name]?!” I’m going to break my head open.

I’m looking for this romfan manhwa where the mc goes back in time after she finds out her husband was cheating on her and he then sent her to an insane asylum. She’s really talented at art and her husband actually published her works under her name. So, she decides to get a divorce while also proving to everyone that she’s the real artist. However, since getting a divorce is hard at the time, she has to prepare evidence and gets help from the actual ml along the way, who’s interested in her paintings or something. I remember there’s a court scene for their divorce too.

Any manhwas where the mc reincarnates as a villainess that’s fated to die, and she doesn’t try to change the ending, resigning to her fate since she doesn’t think she can change it? She just decides to live the remaining time she has left doing what she wants and not trying to butter up anybody or any of the original leads. However, her disinterest in her own life is what gets people to look at her differently?


I just want a manhwa where the mc is kind of like apathetic to her own death. Or like, she’s tried to change stuff in the beginning of her reincarnation, but has given up by the time the story starts. She doesn’t try to approach anybody or try to get on their good side to survive. She doesn’t make a contract marriage to survive, or anything like that. She just resigns herself to her own fate, and that’s what changes her fate.

I think it’s just cause I want a story where the mc is hated at first and it takes a while for her to get love. However, she doesn’t go out of her way to change herself to get that love. She’s just tired of it all. She’s tired of trying.


Okay I think I’m in my depression mood rn, but I do want a happy ending haha. I just love scenes where the mc gives up trying and that’s when the others realizes how they’ve messed up. The angst is so good and it’s sweet when mc does get her happy ending after all that suffering.

I want a story where a fl reincarnates into a world from a bl novel. However, all the gay guys stay gay and the ml for the fl is just a side character guy who’s dodging all the gay flags cause he’s straight. However, since he’s handsome, the world is trying to make him gay by just throwing a ton of different bl archetypes at him. That’s when he meets fl, who understands that this world is very not normal and they build a kindred bond and then fall in love. Like, I’m so sick of the “girl reincarnates in bl novel and ever guy is now straight for her.”

I swear I’ve read more chapters than was on here, but I don’t remember where or if it was under a different title. Does anyone know? ;; cause I swear I remember certain later plot points that haven’t appeared yet. I feel like I’m going crazy trying to search for it.

Not me praying for some of the problematic and degenerate shit I read to never appear on the front page cause then the comment section turns ass from hate comments talking about the problematic or toxic nature. Ngl, I kind of want a story where the mc gets reincarnated into a novel that they’ve never read but only read the spoilers of cause they do that before reading novels, in case they won’t like it. However, that triggers as a “story you’ve read” in the reincarnation system and now they have to navigate the new world while only knowing the spoilers someone else gave, that may or may not be accurate lol(like, they know major plot spoilers but no idea how it happens and not even what the characters look like other than random descriptors lol)

On the other hand, I want a story where the mc read a story and reincarnates into another world, but they overly planned every scenario based off the original story and about how their actions will change the story. So there’s a lot of scenes where they seem like they’ll be caught off guard but then they go “actually, i expected this to happen in my simulations! Time to put plan 1,675 into use!” Lol, like someone who’s overly planned and prepared, who also takes into account the butterfly effect and stuff lol
