She if an impostor. The mother ran awax because she was in a cult that could posses people for their own good. The mother was sent to infiltrate the duke and have child with him and then the child would be possessed by someone from the cult. But the mother fell in love with the duke and tried to hide from the cult. She tried to shield her daughter from them but they got them killed the mom and possessed the daughter. So she is a fake and has ulterior motives. I’m not sure if I covered everything or if everything is correct.
