I think I've read Somewhere that if erna still want to divorce him, he would make her pregnant or something along the lines of metaphor "caging like a bird". And SPOILERS:
He'll gonna regret saying those things, erna fled from schuber to come back to her grandmother and bjorn knew where to find her and was adamant she was just taking vacation/break but the maid (who sends a letter to keep bjorn updated) told him she won't coming back and was gonna divorce him since there's no baby. Bjorn's ego was shattered and go as fast to erna but was stuck due to snowstorm and even rented a common carriage to get there
