a "lovingly" negligent man and an obtuse "betrayed" woman, both as foolish and immature as the other. one never talks and the other assumes they know everything/the truth about the other's feeling. they'll keep misasing each other.
while I'd love for her to spread her wings, it would be ideal if she chose to do so after knowing the whole truth and not from a dream born of a series of misunderstanding. like we say in french, it should be "en toute connaissance de cause" (with the whole knowledge of the cause) and not from ignorance, bc that's truly frustrating. and let's not kid ourselves, while the ml is fully to blame, the fl is as awful a communicator as him, while shre did reach out throughout the years, she never showed any yearning for understanding, love or even simple friendship with the man she was supposed to spend the rest of her life with, just surface level word vomit about the weather or some shit. at least the ml put more thoughts in his reason to "ignore" her letters that she did writing them fu of empty curtesy
