This is really sad. This poor kid is basically being held captive by his rapist. There’s no way to redeem jaekyung, literally he just needed to reject dan and show a smidge of compassion but he’s an abuser who only cares about himself. Poor Dan is traumatized and what he really needs is therapy and a restraining order against jaekyung. I don’t even know what the author is thinking. I might just stop reading this.

She never gets to be away from the palace and live a normal life as she wished. She essentially can only love one of the few men who have ever shown her kindness, but at the same time he pretty much demands she be with him. Even her mother said “it’s the fault of the emperor AND the husband.” I feel like the best ending would have had her living with her daughter far away, able to meet people and have freedom. Beautiful story but the set up for everything felt terrible
What do you mean? She got her freedom...Her freedom was to be able get away from the emperor and his control... technically she did and if she didn't get the generals help in ANYTHING her power would be probably be detected and she'll have and even more horrible life under the emperor's control
