love reading comments speculating about the author because whatever assumption you've made you need to make it weirder.
like broski is on hrt and i still don't know if he's like trans fem or if it's for the bit. also he's married?????? tbh im not even confident he uses he/him pronouns anymore but there's no sources that will clarify. We're not even gonna acknowledge his patreon
At some point we're gonna have to talk about how some cultures don't see cousin/cousin relationships as actual incest and that Japan is one of those cultures that is fine with toeing that line.
I'm not saying it's acceptable I'm just saying it's been a long overdue convo.
The way half these comments are you would think Yeosong did some like irredeemable shit but his crime is that he's sexually exploited by his boss and isn't worshipping the floor Gyeol walks? Or something idk why people are acting like he's too dirty for Gyeol.
Saw a comment bitching about people babying/woobifying Yeosong and uh...sure I'm sure some folks are doing that but it feels like waaaaay more of y'all seem to woobify Gyeol.
Like first of all we ignoring how he was only interested in Yeosong because he wanted to smash? Like that was it. That was the primary goal for him. He wanted Yeosong's cookie so bad that when he was sleeping he was about to jerk off to him. His dick was out and then he had the foresight to not do that. And after Yeosong "ghosted" him he claimed that Yeosong was "acting suggestive" (he was not this man was just insanely horny).
Folks saying that Yeosong is "treating him like a sex toy" are ignoring that Gyeol is too low-key. Like he said straight up he wanted to fuck and that was his main interest. He might like other parts about Yeosong (somehow) but his primary goal this entire time has been to bust a nut.
His actions got his own friend injured and instead of being like "ah shit my impulsive ass just resulted in my homie getting socked for no reason" he's like "grrr need that cookie bad enough to IGNORE EVERYONES WARNINGS and join that obviously shady fight".
Neither of them are perfect and that should've been obvious from the start. This is not a pure, clean fluffy romance. Wtf did y'all expect?
It reeks of purity culture bullshit. It feels like the only reason Yeosong is getting more shit is because he's not just a pure, innocent, blushing virgin who yields to the stronger, manlier top. It also just ignores the fact this story is clearly showing that he's being sexually exploited (and it's pretty obvious he's not into it) and that he's also being drugged but somehow this makes him evil and disgusting and a slut who needs to be tossed aside or whatever. Like what are we doing?
What's especially annoying is it doesn't just happen here. Any time a bottom isn't like "my chrysanthemum is only for one man and also Jesus" or whatever and has sex with other guys y'all turn in the Westboro Baptist Church.
I legitimately feel insane because how do you not just immediately clock the insane shit you're saying? How are you babying one man but then acting like the other is a complete demon for....wanting to have casual sex with him? Get help.
me last week: man I really wanna recommend this to my friends. sure they're not fond of smut but the plot is just too good!
me now: maybe....maybe I shouldn't recommend this to them
There's a Sexual Assault scene. A lot of people don't want to mention this because its the kind of thing that scares away readers but it needs to be said.
It does happen between the main couple. The assaulter is Jinhyeong. From what I remember it's not super graphic and it ends very quickly. It ends because Uyun grabs Jinhyeong's dick and proceeds to scold him harshly.
The scene is extremely nuanced and does treat the moment fairly seriously (there's still a humorous element after Uyun grabs Jinhyeong's dick to scold him but even then the actual assault itself is never a part of the joke). I don't want to go into the reasons why it happens because it kind of spoils the entire first arc of the series.
I'm not going to argue whether it was handled well or not but I do think it was, in some ways, realistic (especially with how it happened). I think it mightve been a little too lenient with Jinhyeong (he never tops after this) but as you go on its hard to hate him. I think it's a very nuanced take on how assault isnt always something done by people with bad intentions. Sometimes it's done by people you love and trust and who might love you but for whatever reason also resent and wish to hurt you.
It's still a good story in my opinion. Jinhyeong is still a character I like and find very interesting but he's very complicated and did something pretty awful.
Please read at your own risk.
OoooouuuuuuuHHHH IT HURTS SO BADDDDD
I NEED TBEM TO REUNITE AND MAKE AMENDS AS ADULTS PLEEEEEEASE I BEGGGFJDHSGAV
I've already seen people ask who's gonna be the "uke" and uhhh...yeah I don't think there's only going to be one the way things are going. I could be wrong of course but I'm gonna hazard a guess that he's gonna be "taking care" of all the animal-hybrids needs.
Also suspect he might put Dr. G in his place eventually if you catch my drift.
Basically, high chance this is gonna be a porny harem type story. I'd advise those of y'all who don't like that sort of thing to shut your mouths and move on to greener pastures.
That said, why is this series so addicting (?) I don't care about the porn as much but the plot has me hooked.
Like don't get me wrong Jihan is a jerk pretty frequently in this story but like...y'all getting mad at him for not knowing how to handle a situation in which your ex (now a famous celebrity) pressures you into going a date with him (after you tell him no and to leave you alone multiple times) by leveraging his fame to make you act accordingly is... interesting. I thought we grew past the victim blaming back in the late 2010s but I guess I was wrong.
Also yes Jihan is being wishy-washy but like it's kind of integral to his character development, no? Am I crazy for thinking this? Is the point of this story not about him learning that it's okay to love and trust others? Isn't the whole reason he has complicated feelings about Heeseop because that's the first person to actually consider his feelings and continue to reassure him that they love him genuinely. Yes Jiyeong does too but he fucked up and broke Jihan's trust pretty significantly. And since Jihan doesn't feel comfortable sharing his past there's not much he can do to fix it.
The whole point of this series is that Jihan learns to trust and love again. Did you think it would just happen like that with no bumps in the road? Don't get me wrong it's not a perfect story and Jihan isn't a perfect character but the complaints are so nonsensical to me. Real cow on a cow farm type shit.
The way my ass wouldve crashed out and sent a long ass angry text to the group chat. FUCK social harmony. I'm not about to let some egotistical cunt manipulate the story just because HE misunderstood things. Ooh this shit has me mad as hell.
Nah when a BL is busting out the "Human Rights Violations" content waening you know it's about to get FREAKY.
NGL this is more horrifying than sexy. Feels like it's gonna end up down some kind horror/thriller route.
Okay aside from defending the translation.
I actually like the story but knowing they're almost certainly gonna get together has me stressed. Personally as an adult in his later 20s it's an uncomfortable thing to think about. Like okay I understand that the way the author set up the dynamic is that the kid is the more likely the one in control of the situation. I'm gonna guess that nothing will happen until he's fully in college. I would argue this isn't a case of grooming BUT STILL!
I cannot imagine myself in this situation. Like sure if a kid came up to me begging to help them by giving them a place to stay (and they genuinely had no other place to go) I'd help them out. But I don't care how relentless they try to pursue me, I'm making sure they know that it ain't happening ever. Hell when I was 18 and a freshman tried to ask me out multiple times I was firm with them to the very end (kid even tried to surprise kiss me and I had to be like "hey I know you think this is romantic but that's actually sexual harassment or even assault in some cases"). I get that things will happen for the sake of the plot but bruh....
Is the translation good? Not really. But is is bad? No. There's some pretty obvious mistakes here and there but you get what you pay for (or don't pay for in this case). The translator honestly does a decent enough job (though I'm a little irked by them not placing hyung after the names) and it's one person.
To the translator I'd recommend finding someone to proof-read your translations. I'd offer but I have a full time job and other obligations but I'm sure one of the lovely folks here who think the drop in quality is too significant would be more than willing to help.
Listen I get the theorizing but there Gilgamesh is just one of many gods out there. I don’t think he’s a Greek god unless Mojito is referencing ore-hellenistic mythology (which is real possibility).
There a couple possibilities. I’d have to go back and re-read the chapter when FG was actually introduced (as an ally to Isis) but if it is a Greek god then I’m thinking Posideon. And if not then maybe something g like Abzu (Babylonian primordial deity that shares a very similar role). I think he’s associated with water (mainly because his introduction was in part related to the time Isis tried to just flood everything). If I recall he was a part of the plan.
Fully convinced the author wants to make it fully gay but every time he tries an editor pulls out a gun.
“Cat God” what do you mean none of you know who Bastet is? She’s like one of the most popular Egyptian gods in the pantheon? She’s the symbol of the most beloved animal in the world.
She’s also, pretty important thing to note here, also sometimes considered to be a gentle half of SEKHMET!
Y’all are so blinded by yaoi misogyny rage that you can’t even recognize one of the most popular and beloved Egyptian gods of all time (who has been fairly reasonable in all of her appearances).
I’m just…how the fuck do you not know who she is?? Literally how?? I’m not even a big Egyptology nerd I just like cats and I knew at least that she was Bastet (the Sekhmet part I kinda knew but don’t blame people for not knowing). But also how are you gonna read a story that:
a). is based on Egyptian mythology,
b). puts a lot of effort into representing the culture and story with cultural accuracy,
and not at least take time to LEARN about the original story/setting the manhwa is based on?
Wild ride of a story. Genuinely great read and you come out of it feeling like you’ve learned something about yourself. I think there were a lot of moments I felt held a lesson for me as an adult; about being vulnerable, about being honest with my feelings, about trauma.
It’s freaky, mature, and overall well written. I know I’ll be coming back to re-read this in the future. Hoping to get a little sequel about the ex-FWB and the single dad. I wanna see them actually get together.
Y’all are being way too harsh on Kazu. Like his crime is being stupid and not realizing he has a crush on his friend and being kinda inattentive. He’s not even a cheater cuz all the girls are clearly aware and okay with their current set up. It’s just a polyamorous relationship.
Kazu also realizes he was neglecting his friend and realized that he hurt Yuki. He clearly cares about him and wants to protect him. He also DOESNT realize he likes Yuki romantically because he’s stupid.
I get that Yuki is monogamous and probably wouldn’t be comfortable with the polyamory set up so it will probably end with Kazu breaking up with the girlfriends and only dating Yuki but like why is it a crime to date multiple people before your final partner? Why are y’all so weird about people who have sex or multiple partners consensually (cuz again all the girls know and are cool with this)?
Don’t get me wrong I think Kazu deserved the wake up call. Yuki was well in his right to cut him off for neglecting him as a friend and basically using him. But y’all act like this man is the devil.
He didn’t even cheat on Yuki cuz they’re not in a relationship, he’s just stupid and spoiled. And now he’s aware of the fact he was being stupid and spoiled and is willing own up to that he wants a second chance. He clearly cares about Yuki, he’s just dumb.
Separate note: lowkey kinda sad Yuki doesn’t want to just be a part of the harem cuz I think it would be so funny if he and the girlfriends unionized. Like Kazu gets mopey cuz Yuki scolds him and he goes the girlfriends and they’re like “nope Yuki-san told us about the fuck shit you’re doing and we stand with him”.
Honestly it’s not worth the time or energy. It’s 100% all just the MC getting abused. None of the questions you have will be answered. Not even through subtext or hidden themes. This was just torture porn.
I thought maybe everyone was exaggerating the Author’s words or maybe it was taken out of context. In my head I thought, “oh they probably meant they enjoyed the catharsis that came from creating this scene or maybe they meant that they felt proud of how they did it.” It wasn’t a particularly graphic or titillating scene so it didn’t make sense to me how it could he “exciting”. But yeah no the Author’s Note is totally whack.
For those curious she outright says she got “excited” by the idea of Seno being violated. Like word for word that’s what she says. Now she also says she felt said and pitiful regarding the scene (which honestly is kind of strange to me because it really is such a brief non-explicit scene) but the comments aren’t exaggerating, it totally felt like an inappropriate comment to make regarding the topic at hand (and specifically how it was framed). Or if not that it was just very weird and disconcerting, it completely takes you out of the story.
Cute story though just…very strange author.
TL;DR Isis is a deep and complex character that is more than "spiteful wife who blames victim". She doesn't actually blame Seth for Osiris raping him (she does still victimblame but more in a "why did you talk to me first" way). She also was using Seth as a tool to punish Osiris which is really why her character is so fucked up.
Morally dark gray but better for it (as in she's very interesting and I love reading her POV).

*Actual Comment*
Isis is probably one of my favorite characters in ENNEAD which is pretty controversial given the fandom seems to collectively agree she kinda sucks. And the thing is I also agree she kinda sucks but I think that's part of why she's such a fascinating character.
Something a lot of readers get wrong is the idea that she genuinely blames Seth for Osiris's infidelity but the manga pretty out right tells us that she was actually much more angry as Osiris. The whole "my dead husband" thing was an act and she wanted Seth to be obliterated so Osiris couldn't have him. Also probably because Seth kind of forced her to rock bottom, killed all her women, and hunt her like a dog but punishing Osiris and making Horus king was her primary goal.
What makes Isis such a fucked up and fascinating character is the fact that her desire for Seth's destruction feels less like her trying to punish Seth and more like an honor killing. She was genuinely traumatized by his assault. I encourage readers to go back to the earlier chapters and the chapters where she's talking to Seth and really look between the lines. Isis genuinely loved and cared for Seth. That wasn't just her friend that was her brother. This is speculation but I kind of wonder if Isis thought destroying Seth was a way of purifying him. She hated him but she loved him. Like how she loved and hated Osiris.
She was wrong. The way she dealt with things was wrong (and it's the same for Seth. I think many fans kinda gloss over the fact that he killed thousands of women and children and hunted Isis but the thing is neither of them were ever bad they were broken. So deeply and profoundly broken.
