Adults referring to the 8 year old isn't unrealistic in that stylized time period If he is male and has a significantly higher rank. He wasn't acting cold though. He was joking with her by repeating what had happen in their past life by saying what he and her said then. He was subtly telling her that he remembers their past life as well. Everything he is doing is to get her to know he remembers. He literally acting out of character whenever she is around even his servant sees it.
