Some people here are trying to justify the empress’ actions by hiding it under her being a complex character. No, youre just being sexist.
If the empress was the ‘emperor’ she wouldnt have been called an “complex character” but instead something derogatory.
Her lore is that she fell in love with the emperor so she helped him rise to the top with the exception that he has to do everything she wants, including having sex with her. Yes, the emperor agreed got the help he needed and agreed to do wtvr the empress wants. But think about it this way. Is it really consent, if he doesnt want it? Sure, legally he consents. Emotionally? He doesnt,
In the end, she is basically a r*pist. And her actions shouldn’t be justifiable under the pretense of her being a complex chatacher. I hope he gets freedom from that girl because i see no redemption for her (i dont see this happening anytime soon tho)
To me his legal consent feels dubious. Like he’s not fully consenting.. it feels like coercion. I agree on the sexism, if she was a man people would be way more angered. It’s as if women cannot be bad guys and cannot take on a “masculine role” (not saying being a rapist is masculine, but in stories it’s a traditional role for a male character to have, not a woman).
The sexism goes both ways, by not allowing women to be seen as the bad guy and to take on non-stereotypical roles (roles that aren’t a woman being soft, motherly, a damsel etc). But also by undermining female sex offenders and making it seem like men are the only ones who can commit such actions. Yeah the story is fiction, but I think people’s reactions reflect real life. Female sex predators are almost never covered in the media and face SIGNIFICANT less coverage compared and outrage to men who do less or the same thing.
Maybe it’s because where I’m from the consent laws are very specific, but what the Empress is doing would be legal rape too. One cannot sign away their consent and consent cannot be “used” more than once (if they don’t consent for every possible action essentially).
I just hope she realizes her mistakes & changes. However, people with power & that position hardly ever sees their own faults. So, the emperor better get away from her. It won't be easy, after all she backing him. So, I feel like one of those slow poisons would be better, yk those that we see in fiction which kill MCs in 3-5 years!
