By the end of the story it just seemed to correlate (at least to me) all back to kei actually being yohei this entire time. Kei just became a physical manifestation of yohei’s true inner self. It honestly just felt like the author used a romance plot line in order to push the message forward of their thoughts on sexuality, gender, and even society.

The ending wasn’t abrupt it was just yohei moving forwards and his ideas of womanhood/femininity stringing along, coming back to regroup yohei (kei). The authors notes all led up to this so that’s most likely the reason why they didn’t went further deep to explain kei’s family background. Kei is yohei.

This is a story that’s definitely worth the reread to understand it properly because based on who you are, this story can be interpreted many different ways.
