I somewhat agree. I feel like at this point the dude is very lonely. His wife left him (i would have left too tbh, but with my child)and it doesnt look like he has a relationship with any other family members, his son his all he has left, but hes the only one because hes an abusive controling person. Hes not like a movie villian, hes abusive, and uses his love as a way to keep his child under his thumb cause hes afraid to loose him too. The protgonist constantly tells himself that his father punishes him for his own good, and that he just has to endure it because he only wants the best for him.

I agree because remember that one time when Jaekyung disappeared and at the door his dad grabbed onto him saying What would I do without you and such in a frantic way. Jaekyung also said the same extreme things when the girl got hurt in the hospital. So I'm thinking they are both just really lonely and want someone by their side. His wife left him so now he only has his son, he wants the best for him but he takes it to the extreme too much. Both may be mentally unstable. This doesn't justify the fact that his insecurity cause him to corner his son and mentally traumatise him.

Yeah I agree with you, but i think that he even became obsessed with the son’s grades because of the divorce and he is afraid to be alone ,when he overreactes when his son is somewhere where he doesn’t know.
