From a "smutty you can fap to this" or find it as sexual piece of media type of perspective? No. For me, it's too noncon and brutal and I just feel bad. Waaaay too emotionally intense.
From a psychological and dark "this is so messed up" narrative type of perspective? Yea. I think it was freaky in a scary way and it integrated the religious aspects well with it. It's good to me.
It's like how Harada's (BL Mangaka) works are so dark, heavy, and psychological that I don't enjoy them as a smutty romance—but more so for its complex narratives and how it frames plots that aren't commonly setup. It's an acquired taste and niche genre type of thing.
Tl;dr: Would I save this in a folder? Depends. Would I put this in a romance folder? No. Would I put this in my messed up folder? Yes.
Love isn't all about looks and that butterfly feeling. I actually commend Hyemi for snapping out of the moment when she realizes that their gap in lifestyle just won't work.
Sure, it was scummy and shallow from an outside perspective—with how she was head over heels and then turned off in a split second—but hey, in this economy with Hyemi being a working woman with ambitions, she needs to consider that only love can't feed you a comfortable life.
Taejae lives paycheck to paycheck and he doesn't have any willpower to change his situation. He's a "we'll see" type of guy, and that feels so unstable for a partner. Like, what do you mean, "we'll see?" will you still say that when you're out of fried rice in the fridge?! Also Taejae, you piece of shit, using Hyemi as a rebound isn't gonna cut it.
I do hope Hyemi breaks it off immediately, that's the best scenario for them. I'll only hate Hyemi if she starts going out of her way to belittle Taejae for his disposition.
