like y'all have a plethora of alien denizens that don't communicate verbally!!! you might not have a comprehensive data on humans, but you DO HAVE data on several species that interact regularly despite not having the same methods of communication! case in point the sand lizard family and the ones at the alien bar/tavern!
Mori is so good at expressing himself and most of his body language and expressions likely came from the pack of white, canine-looking aliens that took him in. He's saying so much with that tiny face alone
