I'm guessing that the Duke is trying to emulate his brother's image. like how he only drinks coffee or doesn't have sweets, when in actuality, he loves tea and sweets. or how he changes his hair even though naturally its like hugh's and their mother notices how much he looks just like his brother and sees this as a negative since he's changing himself into someone he's not.
