Sion tricked him so he couldn’t kill himself (or more like his death would be useless because Sion’s stigma wouldn’t activate ) so instead in the middle of the chaos of the war, he faked his death. He burned his body to become unrecognisable and then switched his clothes with a random body.
He then lived in hiding in a small village for a few years as the ugly weirdo, and then in his first timeline death’s anniversary, Sion came to get him. Sion knew from the start the body wasn’t Pavel’s and knew for a while where the fucker was.
He then heal Pavel’s burned face and body and they go back together. Happy ending.
