i love tsubaki arc, the build up was amazing; from him talking with anonymous, to him being in denial and anger, and finally to him losing his mind and him and tasuku both snapped. the emotions were intense, and i love the way the author provoked our emotions through the illustrations. when tsubaki started to trash talk the cat's clowder members we saw him in the ufo. ofc that's bcs he started to become a stranger to tasuku, become the tsubaki that tasuku didn't recognize. but for me, the ufo and the ship that appeared afterward were a representation of their feelings. ufo as something tasuku likes seems to depict his acceptance of his sexual identity. then it's invaded by tsubaki. then when tasuku finally confronts tsubaki and makes him realize, the ufo disappears and turns into a ship, signifying tsubaki finally accepting his sexuality. tasuku's ufo is tsubaki's ship.
i also like how the author illustrates the whirlwind of emotions that tsubaki feels when he finally comes to terms with his sexuality as a series of memories that comes flooding back to him. i feel like he realized things that matter to him, including the cat's clowder, and his time there. and one more thing, the toy organs falling off the table when tsubaki started talking about cat's clowder was also a top notch illustration, it exactly describes what tasuku (and i as the reader) felt when he said "don't you go there bcs you're one of them too?" it felt like my heart dropped and all the organs in my body were scattered.

ah i was rereading ch 60-160, i just remembered that zhengxi used to be sooo energetic compared to now, he exploded a lot just like mo. but the thing is that he's always been soft towards jian yi since day 1. and he tian used to stick to jian yi all the time before he met mo and made him his next target.
aaaand wow their stories at the beginning were really deep and heart wrenching, thank god we're past all of that now (kinda?) i mean, i wish old xian had continued to explore themes like jian yi's sexuality and acceptance, or zhengxi's feelings for jian yi and their overall relationship to get to this point in more detail. but yeah, for now im happy just watching them have fun in future setting. maybe we'll get to delve deeper into the story someday?

man i love zhan zhengxi so much, he's so oblivious to this kind of things. it also makes me appreciate jian yi even more, bcs this is the guy he's had a crush on for over 10 years, he's a tough one.

Even ignoring the romance, so much of the conversations about values and gender resonated with me so deeply. Youth is such a painful time in all aspects and the social part makes it all much too complicated…

People complain about the ending being rushed but I’m not mad. It was a little glimpse into the future and even if we don’t know exactly how it played out, I think it fits. Taichi values Touma Ambiguously; it is shown even in the beginning when he blushes around him. The way to keep him close while he was dating Futaba was to stay friends because his affection surpassed romance but I think evolved once he was single. It’s happened to me and it’s not malicious.

Masumi ending up with a man didn’t feel like erasure to me either. I might be biased since I am bisexual myself, but I saw it as she couldn’t love her boyfriend because she loved Futaba. Not that she couldn’t love a man. Mami’s commentary on what being a woman in society and Masumi’s reaction to the conversation also made it clear that her shown distaste for men was mostly from her position as a ‘vulnerable’ woman. Her bisexuality at the end did not irk me for these reasons.

I think it is a valuable read.
