People in the comments are missing the whole point of this story. Its not meant to be a love story. It's meant to show how hard it is to leave toxic relationships and how the victims often return to their abusers. I actually love that it doesn't have a happy ending
Literally when he's looking back at the reader, made my heart hurt so much. The defeat, the acceptance. Despite his bravery to open up to the director, to get therapy, get a job, heal, and even explore new love, was controlled by his abuser, was so horrific to find out imo. MC never truly left his nightmare. The ominous sight of just their backs and the way they're literally walking into nothing, just the solitude of them two was wow. I agree with you. I enjoyed this read and it's really alarming to see how many people shat on this, when this was truly more a thriller than a romance.
