I think they meant that once romance is introduced, suddenly once strong and level-headed calculating character turns into a stupid dense MC that is just a bad version of their previous self.
They suddenly start making mistakes they once wouldn't even dream of making because there is so much on the line.
I kinda see it tho. MC was always few steps ahead and always took things seriously and took danger seriously because a lot of people he cares about were at the deaths door more than once (his sister almost died, now has PTSD, his vice prez almost died because of a crazy psycho, his mother was in vegetable state for most of his teenage years, he thinks his dad is still dead and now maybe even became a monster he has to fight).
So take that MC and compare him to this one thst out of ko where decided to spend a weekend miles away from the climax of the future battle. He literally few to fucking Japan in vay-cay when the lives of every person in the world is on the line (especially those he loves, that are in Korea)
Idk about you, but to me that doesn't sound like the person we've been reading about for almost 2 season. It's just out of character for him
