I get that the family might be coming from a good place, wanting him to be comfortable coming out rather than being forced to. However I think his boyfriend should be the one bringing up this conversation with him at this point. ML needs to be asking him about coming out to his parents instead of hiding the whole secret conversation he had with his family.
Also, It may be a cultural thing, treating him like a child(not allowing him to move out, ect.) but if you get down to the basics. . . it's very simple manipulation and dismissal of an individual person. He's a full grown adult with a job, he needs/ can face reality, so hiding it from him isn't going to do anybody good in the long run.
