No fr I think people just project their power kink onto an MC and don't consider the MC's actual values. Granted, I'm also a forgetful reader, so following week-to-week can be hard, but he explains his logic to us multiple times. And just intuitively, like why would he want his brother to stay weaker if that just creates another weakpoint the enemy can use?
