Fruits Basket: starts off sweet, but it has a lot of sad parts. The manga is complete but the anime is ongoing (Fruits Basket 2019)

Gakuen Alice: also like the first, happy then sad. The anime didn't finish the story

Puella Magi Madoka Magica: it has a manga but this is one where I say watch the anime. It might be a magical girls anime but it made me cry like a baby. The best way to watch is watch episodes 1-8 then watch the second movie. This isn't required but it's the best way.
Then watch the third movie (sequel) and read the side stories, it's definitely worth it
