Hi samfisher, I understand that you’re upset. I think what Alicia is trying to say is not all yaoi is harmful and that generalizing it into a single group is not a good idea. As for the website, your plan will likely backfire. Mangago has more than just yaoi. It has popular Shoujo and Shonen titles (bleach, one piece etc) and will get taken down should they be found out. I won’t get into the whole legal thing, that’s not the point, but your actions will affect people outside of the yaoi fandom.
I will say, I believe you both to be right. I do see, SamFisher, that yaoi can be harmful. From the rape, to abuse, to fetishes of gay men. It’s not okay. And then fans try and make it okay, it’s young. I also think young people shouldn’t read the 18 yaoi stories, but that’s not easy. Still, I agree with Alicia, that not all yaoi is harmful. All you have to do is find the stories that don’t have rape and abuse. I admit, it’s not always easy. Yaoi does have a problem, but it’s not all harmful. Some have good stories and characters.
Please know, we are all in difficult times. I feel like people are really only seeing think in black and white, and it’s never good to only see things that way. I think it’s better to have a more positive approach from either educating others or even making your own stories, or advocating to people hw abuse and rape is not okay. Like always though, some will not listen, but that’s life. I’m all for and wanting better representation for the LGBT community as well. However, I think you need to think about such a method you are doing because it will not be good for the site or things as a whole. And, if you haven’t, I think it’s good to read up on the better yaoi stories. I can certainly give you a few.
Anyway, this is my two cents. I’m not here to argue but I’m hoping both you guys and others can be calm and talk calmly.
