Okay.. this one’s really weird. based off the first few episodes I would have thrown it in as top 20 worst plots. It wasn’t until the second season (ep.11) that it was a REALLY good story.
Let’s get it out of the way, the first season is trash. There is very few of it you need for context for the second and better season to make sense. The biggest and arguably only problem with this story is jinta’s (mc/mli) genital switch, which ironically is the basis of the entire first season. It add nothing to the dearies besides a fetish and the story could progress just as naturally with a few small changes and no genital switch. If anything if only served to make the Mm’s and mli’s first intimate act “not rape,” which it still is btw. The thing that made season two better was building and showing character development and explaining why character do the things they do. The first season does not take the time to do that and shows the worst of everything justifying it in some way. Also the order of the story is a little confusing but that’s kinda consistent through the whole story.
Season two. Was honestly.. pretty incredible, if anything I wish the story started here from the beginning and included the context as needed. I LOVE the characters. Honestly I love myself a psychopath with explainable motives. And this story has two. First I love the second mc/mli (idk how to spell his name lol) his character development is SO GOOD and he’s genuinely just fucked up in the head but still trying to be a good person. And that why I hate season one. It shows him with out the development and perceives him the wrong way, as well as emphasizing more on the whole, drugging jintae (mc) and switching his genitals for sex. Jintae’s and chaeosols? (mc) relationship is so much more than drugging the other one night for sex. Second of all. I LOVE NAMMIN he’s also a little psychotic but so interesting. He does his job as a character helping us learn more abt cheaso and further progress the relationship with jintae, but all while not feeling like plot convenience, namin is fully fleshed out and I love the piercing detail, it shows the consistency of chaesos character details and just adds so much attacking to detail, like namin moving his hair to reveal the piercing every time he’s with chaeso, MWUAH beautiful.
Okay. Now the ending. The baby. Good lord. WHYYYYYYI HATE THE BABY. ITS UNGLY ANNOYING AND LITERALLY SHOULD NOT EXIST. The whole switching genders thing is bad and stupid on its own, but they don’t even properly explain it. Through q&a we learn it’s some fictional drug, which.. fine. Sure. People apply things like that for a story all the time. But if you’re going to do that at least explain it? Flesh it out a little maybe? Anyways whatever that fine. BUT ESTABLISHING THAT CHAESO IS INFERTILE AND HAVING JINTAE GET PREGNANT IN THE END IS SO STUPID. I didn’t even mention how confusing and weird the whole pregnancy test is because it wasn’t yet fully confirmed that cheaso is infertile. But once it was that now becomes contradictory, and maybe I’m just missing something and that was for a reason to mess with jintae or something. But idk IDC. BECAUSE HOW THE FUCK DID JINTAE GET PREGNANT. The baby’s not cute, it makes an unsatisfactory ending and creates more contradictions like bringing in the mother/family. And physically makes no sense. If they explained the situation and drug more. Maybe it would. But it doesn’t.
In the end, I am disappointed, there was so much potential for this story, but an unsatisfactory ending, and a fetish used to make the story stand out, ruined an amazing plot that I would say even rivals bj Alex, hold me tight, love is an illusion, cherry blossom after winter, and other big names. Yes even cherry blossom after winter, it wholesome. But it had its downfall. This story’s main plot (consisting of what’s in season 2) is so good and the love of the mc’s is heart wrenching and beautiful. With just a few minor tweaks and rewrites mainly at the beginning, this story could just about be perfect.
I would rate this top three wasted potential of a story.
(Side note. I tried reading this years ago and the translation and beginning was so bad, I dropped it. But I’m glad I came back to it, the length is perfect too i didn’t even mention that, season two is just so short and sweet I love it)
