The Story of a Career Woman Who Goes To a Brothel to Seek Solace
Rural Princess
Soul Drifters
I thought it was different even while keeping some stereotypes and tropes within the GL and F/F romance genre. Claire Clayton has to be one of my favorite characters Ratana Satis has written so far. She is losing her mind because she already lost her memory and then slowly pieces together what actually happened before losing her memory, all the happy times she had with Thea, all sad times at having to play the spy to Thea, Thea knowing she was a spy and still choosing her over Sheryl. Knowing Sheryl was jealous and not who she truly loved. Then going on the run and trying to get her memory back, and then having to deal with Sheryl's jealousy at not being with Thea alone. She didn't like having to share who she thought was hers alone. Understandable, Thea is attractive. She really has a way with getting you a bit emotional before the happy ending. This one took a little longer to get going, but once it did, it was really beautifully told. This would be better in an animated film or show space than live-action.
Beast Knights
I really enjoyed this, but the age-gap and how the relationship starts out for the two mains as sexual is a bit problematic even if consent, with Akila coming into the picture making it more balanced between all three of them and making the other two realize they have feelings for one another, it was just the situation they were in that made Lunar believe she was just being used for sex by Synne, as a part of her being saved by Synne, and nothing more. Their eventual-turned-throuple is actually a nice sight to see. With Akila entering the picture, Synne admits she really loves Lunar, and Lunar realizes she loves both of them equally but also for different reasons. I'd like to see Ratana Satis do more of this kind of fantasy. I would like at least a spinoff with the dark-haired lady teased at the end.
Pulse (ratana Satis)
The first one I read by Ratana Satis back in 2021, right when Soul Drifters was updating and getting hotter, and around where Beast Knights was just starting. It holds a special place for me on the GL tier list. This, Soul Drifters, and Beast Knights are all right up there at the top. Right with Moonlight Garden, Just Right There, and What Does The Fox Say. Even with the hot redheaded nurse (Grace), she doesn't open up. Only with Lynn does she open up. Because the girl puts her on the spot and gives her an ultimatum that she thinks she can win. Then gets shocked when it's not so easy to NOT fall for Lynn. And Mel's best friend also getting her own story would be nice. I also want the other female freedom fighter/Rebel from Soul Drifters to have her own spinoff. It doesn't even have to be leaning into the romance/smut. Just the worldbuilding is sexy enough for me. So many other spinoffs are possible, but she always leaves the door open to explore for some other character. I hope Ratana Satis' team revisits the world of Beast Knights. Not a whole lot of GL/Yuri romances within the Dark Fantasy genre. I never thought about that "Ring in a stuffed bunny" before. Mel was willing to wait as long as it took for Lynn to find out. That's real commitment right there. Real love. And, in turn, Mel who never really felt love for another partner before Lynn, Mel who believed love was cruel and fake and for the weak, realizes how much she misses just being around Lynn. Not even in a intimate way. Just wanting to hang out with her and be with her. THAT is love. The ending scenes always get me a bit emotional.
