Shizuku Hanabira Ringo no Kaori
I used to read Touko Kawai a long time ago, because I liked her art - she draws such beautiful faces, her semes are to die for. I hated this dynamics - persistent uke, blamed on his American upbringing, culture gap, and tsundere seme to the extreme, who rejects any type of physical affection and only says 'I love you' once, whispering in Mutsuki's ear, with no speech bubble. Seme is reluctant to start a relationship and then reveals he is possessive and jealous of uke-chan's easy relationship with his many ex-lovers and then he slaps him for seeing his ex, fact which he agreed to when asked, and accuses him of being inconsiderate, when that is literally everything he's been this far, I just about wanted to nope out of the story. This scene is never addressed and glossed over like normal, expected behaviour and boy, do I hate that! There's a good chunk of the story with them being together - which btw happens with not much explanation as to why, after all that chasing and rejecting - where there is zero chemistry between Mutsuki and Shuu and seme shuts him up even when they have sex like an annoying misbehaving child. There's good parts to this guy, but the tsundere act is so last century man. I have no idea how this could go on for 3 whole volumes, except for the fact that the story is not bad and there's a lovely cast of secondary characters (Shuu's sister and his gramps). But as yaoi goes, this is fucking awful, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, much less as a starter pack.
Shucchou Host Nyu Boy
This was so unexpectedly lovely, I was swept away! Art is gorgeous and also super weird, with works of art for cocks (seriously, the amount of detail is commendable) and, while it starts as a comedy, it sneaks on you with bittersweet drama and introspection - Kei, the host, is burnt out at his job, and Naru-chan just wants to be loved (his sexual journey from wanting to be treated as a girl, but not wanting to be one, simply boils down to experiencing a love just as pure and intense as the 'normal' one he sees everywhere around him). Kei turns out to be a stand-up guy, the scene where he embraces Naru in public and sees everyone's judging eyes on them, then asks him to take his hand and run never looking away from him was such a powerful moment, kudos <3. His boss discovering his relationship with a client (a fake one at that, since he is supposed to take on only female customers) could have turned this story into a tragedy but is instead a celebration and I'm so happy for them! Long story short - this manga looks like a crazy ride, extra and all, and then gently stabs you in the heart with unexpected emotions.
Sensei, Mou Dame Desu
This mangaka is becoming fast one of my top favourite artists, she's so good at drawing compelling characters! This couple was a delight, even if Satoru seemed detached and not getting human subtleties or ways of the heart, but he made me tear up a little - 'everyone has someone who loves them in this world, except for me', dramatic but what a lovely scene. His mother abandons him and his brother and they never actually find out why and he goes through life keeping his distance from people (there's a great line somewhere about it: not wanting to know them and not wanting to be known to them) and somehow he finds his outlet drawing manga, BL specifically, because shoujo would require to know women or anything about successful relationships, which he doesn't have, and BL is easier because they are men and he is a man, right? Loved this guy! Great seme as always - and I'm super happy we always get switching POVs, I'm usually against it, but they are really good. There's also a lot of porn, because the premise is ridiculous - and it usually leads to ridiculous stories - but, again, not in the hands of a good master.
Suki Na Hito Hodo
It's Harada, so you never know what to expect, but either way you're in for a wild ride. It's older art and it shows, there's rape even if the tone is light and humorous and there's a sweet relationship afterwards (also switching, man, uhuuu). Licensed in French.
Ore no Aoharu wa Watasanai
This was a cute scenario - shoujo manga enthusiast wants to live a shoujo-like romance (the other one like that I read was better I think), and the seme (cool and quiet type) was a dreamboat until he confessed he was actively preventing people from getting close to MC during middle grade and thus contributed to his miserable school life, because he was selfish and jealous. No penetrative sex, just a hj and MC thinking he can pull off topping :)))).
Tokyo Boy Meets Country
Sesame Salt and Pudding
Love, love, love for this!!! Ikeoji (silver fox ikemen) and girl operating heavy machines at a construction site get married in a bar - 22 vs 42 age difference and they are so, so cute and funny together, absolutely fell in love with both of them. They decide to stay married for real and they even have two kids in the extras, but there are some more serious moments, like Haruhi's dad (who raised her alone after her mother died when she was two) being against their union because Nagato would die before his daughter (and our ossan saying that he plans to die with her if she dies first because he would be too devastated, while she is stronger and would survive him). He has his own unhappy past, he was involved with a married woman who became obsessed with him and is ready to hurt him for leaving her, while Haruhi's childhood friend Hibiki confesses his love for her and tried to force her to marry him instead (happy he gets with their other friend Aya, who is a serial dater herself). She calls him 'ossan' throughout most of the story and they are hilarious and cute and this story is so heartwarming. Relationship goals <3 This is the artist for that manga with the shy girl who cooks and gets involved with some shady old man that I remember loving. Seriously good josei from this mangaka, one to watch for.
Meguro to Akino wa Kizukanai
This was such a fluffy thing! Licensed in French.
Yatamomo
This is Harada, so it's fluffiness of a different flavour wrapped in weirdness, topped with a heap of horniness and hiding a world of hurt at the center. It took me quite a while to go through with it because it's actually so heavy, but the HEA is always so so satisfying. french, italian
