for what it was, this was a very good story. what i enjoyed most was that the plot felt really well developed, and i thought the characters were intriguing. it’s also one of those stories that takes place in the u.s. during the 1970s to 1980s, and i always enjoy when the plot isn’t set in the present—it adds a bit more to the premise. there are certain elements, like the hostility toward being gay, that were really detrimental to the characters and helped drive the plot. i thought that was a strong choice, especially since you don’t see a lot of stories like that nowadays. i also really enjoyed the crime aspect of it. there were a few things that could’ve been fleshed out more—for example, the ending felt a bit rushed. some people said that was because the artist was having a falling out with the company they were working for, so they tried to just finish the story. i didn’t hate the ending. i feel like it was fine. was it perfect? no, but it was still good. overall, i’d give the story an 8.5 out of 10. i’m giving it five stars on here because i’ve rated similar stories the same, but it’s not going in my “favorite reads” folder. it’s almost like if ash and eiji from banana fish had a better ending, which is part of the reason why i liked it. also, the art was quite good, which i appreciated.
