I use apps. Duplingo, katakana pro, memrise (my favorite), and then if you type in "kanji first grade" it should give you a blue app with Japanese kanji on it. It's an app they use in Japan and they have it all they way up to 8th grade or something. If you are doing self study, I recommend Human Japanese for Android, IPhone and Windows. You can get the free version from Google Play. The paid version costs about $20 USD and it is worth every penny! Basically it is a Japanese Language Course that you would take in high school or college. I've been learning Japanese for over a year now and using an app called Duolingo has been really useful. Also, watching Japanese programmes really helps to learn and understand the pronunciation. Writing characters on flip cards is additionally useful for memorising the hiragana, katakana, kanji and just Japanese words in general.   1 reply

Im also learning japanese and besides what Marisolvrhg advised (which I totally agree and thats what im doing too) I recommend you to try to find the japanese lyrics of some songs you like and try to follow the lyrics, it will improve your memorization with the japanese alphabet and you will also understand better how to pronounce each "symbol" (le......   1 reply

So... do you guys ever think that your language doesn't have enough swear words? Learn finnis! We have a swear word for every situation. I need a better way to learn Japanese. Learning Japanese by watching yaoi has left me with a vocabulary consisting of things like; “no”, “stop”, “don’t”, “not here, people might see us”, etc. I have a feeling using this vocabulary in Japan, might get me some strange looks.   4 reply
