Its not a choice, its a habit that people develop. I used to do it when i was younger and had really bad social anxiety. I still do it, but its way less. And no, i dont swallow it.   reply

i used to do it, i didnt swallow it but I used to fidget with it, but I have grown to enjoy long and pretty nails which motivated me to grow them out and style them since my parents don't allow be me to get acrylics   reply

lets not be rude about it here in the comments. many people do it as coping mechanisms of OCD, anxiety etc, so again lets not. it may not be normal to YOU but to others its a habit, especially is its a part of OCD, its not even something they can control.   reply

I do bite my nails when I was like in grade 3 even now still doing it. It became a habit to me I really don't know why.
