It's really annoying and misleading. I honestly don't know if it's the straight x gay trope, the I like girls but I love you (a guy) cliché or just the authors genuinly not knowing/caring about sexuality. However, I've read a few mangas where they actually say a character is bi or 'he swings both ways' so I guess this genre is slowly evolving an......   3 reply

They usually don't explore the sexuality of the characters which is a shame. It's always the same pattern : The straight one falling in love with the same gender friend/nemesis and saying he's gay or "Not gay, just in love with one guy and it's you" and vis versa. It's very hard to find a manga where the character is openly bisexual, or even when b......   2 reply

Hmm now that this brought up I just realized many yaois are like this. But just to be sure, I have a lame dumb question: how do u tell someone is gay or bi if he dated women before then dated another man and keep dating men since then? Will u keep labelling him as bi? I dislike this trope too, since I have seen in many works where the the guy was clearly straight, but since now he's attracted to other dude, he is suddenly gay. I mean, just say you are bisexual, it's not that hard. As a bi ace person myself, I don't like it because it enforces this idea that you either have to choose to bat for this team or that ......   3 reply

As a bi person it annoys me so much! There's a time and a place where it CAN work, i.e. if the character was forcing themselves to be in relationships with girls and couldn't figure out why it wasn't working or if they never had any interest in girls to begin with and so they just assumed they were straight cause... you know, comphet.
