Why have a ballroom with no balls?

This is one of those things that keep me up at night...

Traditionally, women are supposed to wear skirts (wen I say traditionally, I mean in medieval time and such)
And men were supposed to wear pants

But shouldn't it be the other way???

Because why let girls have all that space wen they don't need it?
And why not let guys wear skirts bc they clearly need the space
