Assuming this question is in regard to the LGBTQ+ community, in my experience this is just a self-righteous and implicit way of saying: "I hate who you are and what you do, but I want to be nice so if you call me out on it, *you're* the douchebag here."
It's not even genuine respect, it's just a more 'polite', less offensive way to be homophobic. ......
