hello im also learning kanji and i think u shouldnt learn word by word
if ur a beginner level then try to find japanese children media (storybooks,tv shows,etc) with furigana to immerse it slowly then move on to higher grade ones
its also important to learn from kanji books that has example of any word in conversation, scenario, passage
make kanji......
