Do you guys ever miss your current self?

I don’t know why but sometimes I mourn my current self because I’m sure I’ll have different interests and such in the future and I won’t take part in any enjoyment of the activities I have currently just as I did when I was younger.

Like, I don’t read fanfiction anymore, and have tried to get into it again, but it’s just not the same and I don’t know why. I don’t listen to music like half•alive or Melanie Martinez that much anymore. I don’t like the sandals I’ve liked for the past 8 years, simply because I don’t like them anymore, and I’m really picky about shoes as my most recent pair which are Mary Jane’s are from 3 years ago so now I’m going to have to search for new ones.

And what sucks is I really like my current self. My style is getting to where I’ve always wanted to it be, my hair will be dyed in like two months to the colour I want, my interests are developed but still a lot I wanna do, and my music taste is horrible from the outside perspective and but good to me right now.

I’m probably just being a Debbie downer because if I was told I couldn’t change and wouldn’t change I would hate that too, but I shouldn’t be missing things I’m actively doing.

Is this a thing everyone feels? Am I just being stupid?

This is normal, though, especially as you grow. I mean, like the person you were in the past, obviously, isn't the same as now, but you can look back and appreciate that version of yourself. Like, for example, I used to love fanfictions too, but now they don't quite hit the same anymore, maybe because I have matured or idk just grow out of that int...... 1 reply
