What do you think about when omegaverse yaoi mangas refer to one partner being the "mom"?
I'm a lesbian who's always been in lesbian spaces since I was a little kid, and it's not at all uncommon for one partner (esp butches) to refer to themselves with masculine titles in the relationship. When I used to have a girlfriend I was addressed as her "boyfriend" even though I don't identify as male - it's just the title that felt the most comfortable for me. Similarly, I've known lesbian couples who have children and one of the parents referring to herself as the "dad" and her kids addressing her as such. So I'm very used to the idea of one person in a same-sex relationship choosing to use titles that don't "fit" their gender. So when I started reading omegaverse I never even batted an eye at the omega men being referred to as "wives" or "moms", and so was very shocked when I went into the comment sections on these manga to find that it made a lot of people uncomfortable or thinking that it's weird to refer to a man with a feminine title. I'm curious what other people think and their reasons for why??
Probably because the over feminization of bottom to the point the story us just straight with extra spice can be very annoying and a very bad stereotypes too. Especially when gay has enough being ask "so who is the woman" by ignorant people. And also the term wives in omegaverse just sounds so condensing in certain omegaverse story it just activate...... reply
It would be cool if the intent was actually breaking gender roles but that's not the intent of most stories, it's just the stereotyping """feminine""" tributes such as child caring, if you're good with children you're "maternal" in today's society, men who are good with kids are idolized while for women it's something that's expected, in bls the "b...... 1 reply
I only find it weird in the stories where they’re challenging the power dynamic or stereotypes. then in the family arc ending, the omega who gets called mama ends up being a stay at home mom like 50’s nuclear family style (only takes care of the kids and cooks) so it feels like they’ve lost somehow…
Tho the stories where the kids call the ...... reply
Honestly, I think the characters' comfort with the title reflects how I feel—if they’re okay with it, I’m okay with it; if they seem uncomfortable being referred to that way, then I feel uncomfortable too.
That said, I think some people’s discomfort might come from the perception that using titles like “mom” or “wife” implies a het...... reply
