To give some context this thread was talking about how people of color are negatively depicted in manhwas and how Middle Eastern south Asians are constantly being villainized and described as barbaric. I’m not going to put this user on blast, especially since they are active on here and i’m not trying to fight with someone but their comment really rubbed me off the wrong way. I felt like as if they were justifying colorism and racism in asian comics. I fought with them before about this subject, and when I said, I expected for them to do the bare minimum to not be racist they responded to me with “ you guys think Asian countries should bow down to western world” and says something along the lines that should be even grateful the fact that I am even represented in someway in asian comics. Maybe it’s a stretch, but I feel like they were being racist and that last sentence they made was weird like what’s so funny about someone being ignorant

As a Chinese, from what you just said that’s definitely racist. Let me use the Ishowspeed China tour as an example. People kept singing that one song to him which I myself interpreted as just them not understanding or genuinely thinking it’s a fun thing to do. But then there was that one girl who was actually racist. You can tell the difference. I grew up in Beijing China and I agree with that person when they said that a lot of people likes the standards in Western countries and think it’s cool, but I’ve never heard people be blatantly racist just because “UWU western standards is cool”. Racism is still racism and just because we sometimes likes to look up upon western standards doesnt excuse sterotyping a race to bad shit in manhwa or manhua. (I would explain further but I got a midterm I’m not missing)

With that being said half of their statement is incorrect for several reasons. Problems regarding racism still very much exist in all of these areas & sometimes it unfortunately against their own people. Racism is not some new fond acknowledgment for them so to say its not a huge problem is an ignorant & uneducated statement. You can find several Chinese people who have spoken up about racism they've experienced by their own people the same can be said about Japanese ppl & Koreans.

Most of the “stereotypes” they have about Western people are stereotypes & behaviors that the majority of Westerners don't agree with. They aren't dealing with Western ppl being racist SINCE MOST of ha don't agree with the stereotypes & frankly, that's such a weird mindset to have when we're talking about BPOC.
You can acknowledge that some of them are curious & don't completely understand but you can also acknowledge that some of them are completely racist especially grown adults, most manwahs/mangas/manhua even focus in this problem a lot of adults in that area are unfortunately closed minded and refuse to secure themselves compared to the children.

I think if they are too stupid to go to Google and type out with their fingers to research some stuff then they should stop using these culture's motifs, like stop taking inspiration from these cultures and absolutely stop appropriating it, china/japan/korea already have great and vibrant cultures so make stories based on that leave us other asians alone?? But this won't happen because I actually know that there are artists that do their research and portray these cultures well, y'all have set the bar so low for manga/manhwa authors especially when it comes to romance genre.

Yeah this is racist, reducing people from countries like japan, korea and china to ignorant people with no access to outside things through technology/ not bothered enough to do research about it, sounds definitely wrong.
while it is true that many people from these countries are racist, they're the older generations. young people are learning more through social media and the internet, and by having access to just more info than their past generations, they're definitely gonna be more aware of people of colour outside their own culture. there's gonna be outliers obviously, but I don't think the average 21 year old from Japan is going to be shocked on seeing a middle eastern person exist idk
Not generalizing here but the japanese youth is definitely relatively seems more open minded than koreans or chinese (I'm basing this off of the fact that I have relatives who have lived and travelled to all of these three countries)
