An opinion
Apothecary diaries should've been a story without a romance subplot for Mao, to be honest. With my own bias opinion, I do not like Jinshi. At all. My dislike solidified for him when the cave scene happened. And I found myself utterly bored whenever there's a moment between them. To the point that I will forget that he even exists until he shows up and suddenly I'm forcibly reminded of his existence once again. I don't *hate* him though, I can still tolerate his existence, but the fact that I found myself having a hard time imagining them together as a romantic couple should've been enough for me to not root for them lmao.

MY OPINION, I didn't think too much into this but now I get it this IS making so much sense but Im lwk obsessed with jinishi and mao mao . I get wym, I too hate when unwanted romance is involved in a perfectly good story but jinshi literally played a big role in helping her if wasnt for him she'd die a normal servant but her invisible attachment to him is whats keeping her to think of him but ofc she sees him ONLY as in like a friend or employer way while he is in love w her and she didnt hate him or anything she looks out for him we all hate how stuck up he was on being shiny eunch jinshi. I hated him so bad but watching the story I gradually began to understand the reason why he puts on that facade. The cave scene was so unwanted too but the author herself wrote it and it wasnt bad since he didnt wanted to FORCE HER into uk... he js wanted a kiss. I was angry when he pushed her down but upon seeing his hands shaking so bad I realised his intention to prove to her he isnt some frog eunch and is actuallly the crown prince but she avoided it. AGAIN WE GOIN OPINION SO THIS IS MINE.
Yeah I agree. I bought some physical copies I was such a fan, but I dropped it after the romance started getting picked up more. Idk I just lost interest…
Made sense because if u know the author who made the story
She stated that she dislike jinshi allot and that she actually wanted to kill him but she couldn’t because the fans adore him. That she also dislike writing male character in generally
So it made sense who jinshi character feel so rush and raw but I believe the author probably won’t make them love interest (unless yk the fans keep asking) .

I have seen the same statement somewhere, but I couldn't really fact check it. If it's true though, then that is fucking hilarious. Authors shouldn't be swayed by the public's opinion though, but whatever.
I wholeheartedly agree with you I have even read the light novel, and I still couldn’t bring myself to truly like his character I really hate the fact that they’re gonna end up together. I really wish there was more fl mcs who don’t have a romantic love interest or always ending up with a man at some point. People always get so mad at me for it especially people who root for them. I just don’t feel their chemistry and it just feels forced to me at least.
Ah yes, heteronormativity, my greatest enemy. I can think of many characters who I found more interesting than Jinshi, starting with his mother. The four concubines. Mao's adopted and biological father. Mao's adopted sisters. The empress. And many more.
fathers*, and in my own bias opinion once again, Shisui is a better love interest for Mao. Aside from the fact that I absolutely adore her character, Yuri is just better.
tbh it looks like a one-sided crush for jinshi and mao is literally just there doing her own thing
Which is a shame since readers (specifically me) have to be convinced that Mao would end up falling for him. If it weren't for the others saying they would eventually be together at the end, I wouldn't even be considering Jinshi as the end game.
