In what sense? There's multiple ways you can interpret this question. In terms of a work's merit or enjoyability factor, I would say yes. I believe that once it's out of the artist's hands, you can read and interpret it as you wish. You do not owe the artist a "right" interpretation. What you make of it is yours alone. Kind of? I never really get to know most artists personally apart from their work. I would say I still love their work but, if it's a bad person looking at a piece just reminds me of the bad things they did which, of course, makes the work hard to enjoy anymore. I also wouldn't want to put money in the artists pockets if they did something bad so I......   reply

I think the question truly depends on the artist, what they have done, the medium of their work and how they interpret their own mindset or actions onto the art. Some things sure can be ignored for some people while others cannot its really only about morals. But if the artist has affected a group of people as a whole I find it difficult to ignore......   reply

(sorry i fucking rambled) if it's about the artist's problematic behavior: i usually weigh how valuable the art is to me on a scale against how offensive whatever the artist did was;;; like if they committed crimes against humanity i won't stream their decent music, but if they made uniquely wonderful music and wasn't like hitler bad i might play......   reply

I think it depends... You shouldn’t separate art from artist when liking a piece of art directly supports a horrible person/group/idea through money or other earnings they gained from said art. For things like music that you can listen to without the artist directly gaining from it, I’d say finicky whether you should separate art from the artis......   reply

Yes and no? Idk to be honest. I struggle with this. I have to do this on AO3 a lot, I will find masterpieces or smut I like and check out their account and find…vile shit. I just try to ignore it and only read their works that aren’t from the depths of hell. Same for music artists and actors, there are so many freaks and problematic people ......   reply
