So, there's been a discourse going around Twitter for months about poorly written prose from fan fiction and how it's affecting people's literacy in contrast to well-worded prose from actually acclaimed literature. I'm not a native English speaker and to be honest, sometimes I find quotes from famous professional writers having almost the same quality as those from eloquent fan fic. I want to ask what's good prose and whatnot. (I would appreciate examples of each) This place isn't the best to discuss literature but anyway—
First of all, people talking abt fanfiction being bad when we got famous authors writing shit like “we laughed at our son’s big balls”?????? Be so fuxking fr. Second of all a good quote is anything that’s meaningful AND seems natural to the story as a whole.

A well written quote, at it's core, is a drop derived from a sea. Someone finally put it into words, and with simplicity, and or elegance. One of my favorite quotes is from Slaughter-House Five. "So it goes..." Yes, you're right, so it has to go, so it must go, so it goes, there's nuances in the three words, there's reason, thought, and conclusion....... reply

For me a well written quote from a story can be a variety of things. It can be well-written because it hints at the theme. It can be well written because it exposes the character in a new light. Then there's double meanings and foreshadowing and what not. Or it can be well-written because of simple things like word choice or if it makes me laugh. I...... reply
English is not my first language either but i grew up constantly reading with the classics with HOMER and penguin classics still being my favorites. That being said some of HARDEST quotes and prose that ive ever read came from FanFictions published in sites like ao3 and Wattpad.
