am i too soft for yaoi?
i started reading and watching yaoi mangas/manhwas/webtoons when i was like, 14? and back then i did not really mind this whole dynamic of the uke acting like he does not want to get railed by the seme, who obviously did not give a shit about any "no's" and "pls dont's". i mean, my first webtoon was Killing Stalking after devouring Junjou Romantica. i was all for this dynamic ngl, as most of us are.
i dropped reading smut altogether for a couple of years, only watching stuff like Yuri on Ice, Given, Banana Fish - shounen ai where this whole consent-shit was pretty easy to establish.
now i'm 24 and starting to dabble in some manhwas/webtoons again and all i noticed is that stuff like Jinx or Hounds of Sisyphus still has me kicking my feet, but this whole lowkey (more like highkey) rapey stuff rubs me the wrong way. i'm struggling to find stuff to read that does not have this dynamic as their main trope, especially since i actually like those nasty toxic dynamics
am i too soft? too woke? lmao is it me? am i the drama? i dont think i'm the drama. maybe i am?
No you’re not the only one. Lately I’ve been reading less comics (specifically bl) because of how much rape content there is. You’re not “soft” or “woke” for having human emotions and being uncomfortable reading that stuff ngl I love a good toxic ship myself but YOU DONT NEED TO HAVE RAPE FOR IT TO BE TOXIC. Like lost in the cloud, ki......

It’s not “woke” to feel uncomfortable with rape, congrats, you discovered empathy.

Congratulations, you grew past the desensitized teen phase. Its normal to feel uncomfortable wth noncon/dubcon, specially with how overly romanticized and brushed over it is on manhwas/mangas
Btw theres close to none toxic dynamics w/o rape bc authors think thats the first thing it needs to be added unfortunately

You’re just normal! You’re not soft or woke for finding rape the worst crime to commit to human being be romanticized uncomfortable. Rape and abusive dynamics are just very normalized in yaoi especially by bl fans.

Ur not too soft, rape is meant to be uncomfortable to read. I had the same ‘issue’ (except I’m not really into the toxic stuff) and find rapey scenes uncomfortable to read compared to years ago where I didn’t understand that stuff was ass.
Everyone’s got their own taste and hey, u realised u don’t like non-con so why don’t u read som......

Nah I think your taste is just maturing. I loved Junjou Romantica back in the day, but now it’s like I cringe at myself for thinking that show was peak. Sometimes you just don’t pick up on the issues and implications when you’re younger and don’t know better

your problem is reading webtoons. 99% of them are trash.

No but the readers are. Tell them they support rapists and romatize tropes like stalking, raped victims, black mail etc and they will come to attack you like cats and dogs

No.
is perfectly normal to be uncomfortable reading rape and abuse in a story ESPECIALLY when is brushed over, minimized and portrayed as something "desirable" like in Jinx and it's 3000 recolors.
