Most people who say they hate those themes are talking the romanticized type tbh. I agree with you that when its done as an actual traumatizing event that causes ptsd it can be great as a plot point. Its rlly disappointing when I read stories where the person is raped by a third party and the authors exploit as smut and just makes the character h......   reply

It’s not that people don’t want topics like rape and abuse to be talked about it’s more like nine times out of 10. It’s always romanticized or glazed over. It might just be fictional, but people go through this in real life. I don’t think people‘s trauma needs to be glorified and romanticized or to be treated as a fetish. A lot of you h......   reply

When the author has warnings and explicitly mentions what's going to happen isn't consensual that's a step in the right direction But i seriously hate when they act as if the victim wants it and are playing "hard to get" that trope annoys me so much!! I feel like abuse in stories can be read in-between the lines too, for example in the book "smal......   reply

I feel a lot of people don’t understand Tatsuki Fujimoto’s way of writing traumatized characters. But for me the way his characters cope with the shitty things that happen to them feels so unapologetically real. I remember reading Goodbye Eri and so many people in the comments didn’t get the ending which made me frustrated. Because I think it......   1 reply

I don’t like when a story handholds me through topics. Frankly, I feel insulted when they feel the need to constantly explain things. However, I recognize that because of my background I understand these topics at a deeper level than the average reader, thus they probably need the ‘this bad thing is happening because of this and why what happen......   reply

Just look at the classic novel lolita crazy disturbing themes in my opinion (not read yet) no matter how you twist it but alot of people praise how well it's written and the story that it tells. Great writing doesn't shy away from these topics it makes us think about them in new and interesting ways or helps us see the issue from another perspect......   2 reply

I'm fine with both ways tbh. As long as I know what I'll be getting from the first 10 chapters alone, then I don't really bat an eye. What bothers me more are the audience and how they handle the piece of media. An example would be the edgy overglazers. Like no John, the story aint interesting just because it covers dark topics. You're only calling......   reply

I understand why people outright dislike themes involving rape and abuse, since they’re often romanticized. Personally, I can’t say I’m okay with it either — but if the topic is used to address trauma in a way that’s necessary to the story, then I acknowledge it and see it as part of the plot, but i will never brush it off. Whether it’s......   reply
