How would you want stories to handle dark and disturbing topics?
Seen some opinions about people just outright disliking a work cause it has themes of rapes or abuse, which i disagree with.
Personally, I'm ok with these topics if they're handled as something traumatizing and not something thats just brushed over or romanticised. By this i mean, the effects of the trauma to be seen throughout the story and not just suddenly disappearing and if the story can, showing the signs of healing.
Idk if this makes me a bad person, i would love to know yalls opinions on this cause i feel like i can understand not wanting to see characters in pain so thus not wanting to include the trauma but i feel like that's just making the story unrealistic, but these works are fictional so atp I'm just fighting the voices in my head haha.
Anyways would love to hear yalls thoughts about this, also if you've got your own answers. I'm willing to change and improve my thoughts too.
Just look at the classic novel lolita crazy disturbing themes in my opinion (not read yet) no matter how you twist it but alot of people praise how well it's written and the story that it tells.
Great writing doesn't shy away from these topics it makes us think about them in new and interesting ways or helps us see the issue from another perspect......
