Why are forums a thing?

Genuine question.
Everytime I'm on here I see one of two things:
People over sharing their deepest darkest secrets or some dumb drama.
Worst part is, you can't NOT see it because the block button doesn't work.
And then YOU get in drama for blocking people because now they think you're one of the ops.
(This has actually happened to me multiple times on here, I don't even talk to anyone. )
Like what is forums existence for?
I've also seen multiple people say they don't want to make friends here, me included so, what's the point of forums?

idk forums have always been like this, reddit, twitter, we all call them cesspools cus their js ppl saying their thoughts the difference here is that it’s js smaller. its the same as myanimelist forums but since there isn’t any rules or censorship it’s js a space to talk it was turned off before too + the forums in 2010s seemed a lot more pe...... 1 reply
