Pitch black doesn't sound like poop, according to Google the most common culprit is the breakdown of black rubber gaskets or flappers within the toilet tank, which can release black, oily residue into the water.
If you washed it well I believe it'll be fine, ideally don't wash the inside with soap to not mess up with the PH levels there.
