Why do we like BL
Sorry for the long post you guys, but I really needed some insights from y'all to untangle my own psychology about BL. Maybe you guys can give me your insights as well!
I am trying to put into words why
I like BL. At first, I thought it was wish fulfillment without a woman being in the equation. When I ask women why they enjoy BL, they say they like seeing men express emotions, love and sexuality without women being in the equation. Because women in her media usually take on a weaker role, feminine role, maybe sexual violence against her is shown.
Women consuming BL don't have to deal with that 'ick' feeling of seeing another woman. I thought to myself, okay, maybe I just don't like seeing women in my romances. Maybe I do want wish fulfillment of a romance with only two men. And the point of reading a romance for me is to experience all the romantic emotions without actually doing anything sexual.
But then I look at the stuff I typically like -
Two huge masculine men
Reversible couples
Masculine bottom x Pretty looking top
Theoretically I should like the typical small uke x big top dynamic since that would match my preferences more in real life. I have no desire to dominate a man and would rather be submissive. I wonder why it is I like the stuff I like.
So I'd like you all to share your thoughts so I know how you think.
I love men. U know what's better than 1 man? Two men kissing. Passionately. And having say gex ofc

My reasoning is a little weird, but stay with me here. I've had mostly emotionally unstable male figures in my early life, which led me to believe that men had no other emotions besides anger. I know better now, but when lil ole me found BL I was actually shocked and amazed... Can guys really be emotional and caring like this? Can they truly be so ......

As a man myself, I just like seeing the vulnerable side of men as they are typically portrayed to have a strong-willed and Alpha type resolution. Especially buff dudes who plays in a romance and clearly depicts intimate love which have special place in my heart. Moreover, I feel like queer type stories is much more complex due to the fact it is not......

This is my view as a straight woman but I think it’s because for the most part it’s women who are creating it, it’s so much more than just a physical relationship, there’s depth into the characters and overall it represents how I want to be loved (although there are some wild/insane works but setting those aside lol) . Meanwhile when I read......

Personally, I find BL intriguing cause it’s taboo back then and showing that kind of sexuality openly is mind boggling in a good way, plus I used to be horny and sucker for something different rather than fan service for men anime shtick. Also I like friends to lovers and a lot of them checks out
If you want to know more why, maybe this video wo......
