The abused becomes the abuser trope

Something about this concept always bothered me but I couldn't put my finger on it, but yesterday watching tapoki's original sin i realised why . Mc gets violently bullied by a character named maria but we come to know that maria is mentally and physically abused by her mother. Here maria gets defended for her behaviour just with a excuse of "oh she's just a child, that's why she did it" but mc also had trauma, she was malnourished and even worse condition than maria. If she didn't defend herself she would have died in that woods.in the end mc and maria becomes friends and that was the part I hated most. Like no consequence for maria? Even in the timeline whe takopi didnot arrived, mc gets violently bullied until she moves out. This is also a common thing for many bl . Characters would do most heinous thing but be forgiven cause he just had some trauma like bro everyone has trauma that didn't turn them into a rapist. So much rapist characters are just forgiven?!! Like I don't care how much they reform, they did bad shit, they don't need another person to teach them that rape is bad and you should not do them just because you had a traumatic past. Lowtide in Twilight was even a worse offender, cause wdm he grew up in the healthy house hold and didn't knew raping and taking advantage of a poor person is bad and i don't wanna even hear about how much he has changed shit, he needs to face jail time. They be like it's dark romance, you don't need a rapist ml to write dark romance and anyone still reading have a nice day it's 3am in morning here and I don't know why I'm yapping

I feel like with Takopi, you're talking about a kid, that grew up in a not so good household and she's a kid, she hasn't experienced anything much larger to really know what's good or bad. She's just doing what she has seen or knows to let out her anger.

I feel like I'm also kinda defensive in case of Takopis cause it reminds me of 'A silent voice', in both of these cases, the adults are absolutely useless and not present at all. And i believe with growing up and really reflecting back on their life, they would come to regret it.

Even in school, you can see how bad mcs condition is but the teachers pay no mind to it which again, adds to that idea of not knowing what's right or wrong.

I might be in the wrong here but, i just see the four (including takopi) of them as the victim of circumstances with a trash adult and the very end being the best end for them, a timeline where they have someone to rely on.

sweet dreams lol. But yeah i get what you mean. I do like it when our ideas of there being only "good" and "bad" is questioned by showing that the "bad" guy actually has a reason to act as he does and the "good" guy also has a reason and isn't just naturally a saint. I like when a work makes me understand why someone is how they are. But i dont think understanding why someone is how they are should automatically be viewed as an excuse. There is an explanation for why we do everything we do but an explanation is not an excuse. I also hate when the character changes too drastically too quickly. Our actions are based off the skills we learned to survive until this point. These skills, especially the ones we learned in childhood, take a long time to change to skills that are more effective in our current environment. Unlearning coping habits takes a long time so when they stop doing something just because people understand them more, it feels like cheap storytelling. Just because you took away the cause doesn't mean the symptom disappears
