Old screenshot i found lol anyways aside from the fact they're being transphobic, do these people just GENUINELY think the gay shit they read isn't being read by GAY people too??
Lol, people just don't want to acknowledge that men read BL, do they? Some studies showed that 30% of BL readers in Japan who read BL are men, and btw, these are old studies; it was in 2016 or something, so maybe it's even more these days. I feel like women who talk like that and talk about male readers like that do so because they want to gatekeep BL to only women. Remember in old times when authors were flexing about queer men or normal men reading their BL? Now they don't do it. Why do you think? Is it because it's not that rare for men to read BL? hmmm. But I guess I'm delulu.
Tbh, I don't know if Yano has done the gender demographic research again; maybe the number has gone down. Idk, the moment I start talking confidently, I get proven wrong. This is an old article; it was from 2019. I was going to look at more of their research, but sadly, they are not as generous as NIH; you need to pay for it.
More men read bls nowadays, atleast in my country-! I think some ppl in my uni made it as their research thesis and though their respondents were only 2000+ people... 40% of those were queer men.! This was only in 2023 so much more recent. I think it won't be far less different from Japan and in other countries, with specially tiktok nowadays normalising it too. Honestly it's interesting to me too that in anime community, to be hero x fandom I saw this from.
Alot of straight men don't seem to care the fact that 2 of the characters are probably a gay couple, they even ship them! It was really interesting to see these male fans from a shounen anime, where mostly straight men dominates the fandom to see most of them NOT care! So yeah I believe more male bl fans exist cause of alot of bl release recently too. Back then in 2015 most guys wouldn't read or watch bl lol.

right? Like, men are the ones who encouraged me to read BL. YouTube just kept suggesting to me people who talk about BL, and I'm not joking, all four of them were either bi or straight men . Like, I was so surprised. I thought BL was for women by women—why are all those men into it ? Like, I was really confused.
