If the gender of a yuri pairing is a central and important factor of their dynamic (e.g., experiences of misogyny and lesbiphobia), which is often the case for so many yuri pairings anyway, it becomes distasteful to just make them both men lmao. Or people just don't like yaoi, which is absolutely fine.
