personally I think that's silly and either way is fine but if I had to guess I'd say it's because in fandom spaces yaoi is generally WAY more popular, even when the male and female characters are equally interesting/shippable. so when you already have a lot less fic/art of gl ships it can be frustrating to see them genderbent to make more male cha......
