Male gaze vs. female gaze

Is it just me, or am I the only one tired of blanket statements where, when it's a female character, it's for the male gaze, and when it's a male character, it's for the female gaze? Like when people complain when a game doesn't include a lot of women or men, they make it into, "Well, I guess they don't want women to play their game if they include mostly female characters." I'm sorry? I'm a woman who plays the game for cute female characters. Like I'm tired of people acting like gay men or gay women don't exist. Or it's not even about attraction; people just enjoy character design. You don't need to be attracted to a character to play the game or watch anime. A lot of gay men like the Touhou franchise or like playing D4DJ. I met a lot of gay men on D4DJ.

When people say this stuff, it only makes me feel weird about myself. Like, liking female characters or finding women sexy or liking them being sexy is not something I'm supposed to do.
