Which story do you think just tried too hard and failed ?
Meaning, which story tried to make a theme so good, it ended up just being bad, can be small parts of the story, like a frequent gag or a buildup leading upto nothing.
An example would be my recent read, 'Aku no Hana'/'Flowers of evil', felt like the author tried too hard to make it as twisted as possible but that just lead them to being so superficial or like just existing for the sake of the genre (idk the exact word)
I'm sure there are some psychological, that are just edgy with no substance, comedic ones, which fails to move the story ahead and drags on with a same bit, romance with no chemistry, similar to that.

They tried so hard to add mystery to it when there was only a single possible culprit.
The supernatural element also ended up being more of a plot hole since it was something that just "happens". And dont get me started with the ending, like it was supposed to be this big twist but tbh it felt so stupid bc youre telling me the only living ......
